Dr Julie Gork is a researcher, writer and educator working in fashion studies.

I research different experiences of the body in society, with an interest in fashion, disability and diversity.

Fashion and disability is a critical area related to diversity and inclusion in universities, communities, and the fashion industry. Most recently, I worked with people who are blind to learn about sensory knowledge and how it is used to understand appearances and beauty norms in visual culture.

I also have experience in research collaboration, translation, and community engagement.

Community engagement and research translation activities include artist-in-residence programs; exhibitions; community workshops; walking tours; short films; and print and digital communication for newsletters, reports, social media, and news media. These activities involve liaising with the local community, council members, industry, and academics.

I work with retailers and brands, drawing from my experience in the fashion industry.

Prior to a research career, I worked for almost 10 years in the fashion industry as a trend forecaster and product developer, in Australia and internationally. This experience informs how I approach industry collaborations to ensure relevance and benefit through consultations and workshops.
